The DMV Starts the New Year off Right!!

5TH ANNUAL 2011 DMV MUSIC AWARDS

1. Nominees will be determined by an online voting system (40%) of the overall vote, a text-to-vote process

(30%), and a DMV industry "power ballot" (30%). The top 7 nominees from each category's will then are sent to a panel of 15 independent judges.

1. Online Nomination Ballot: Go to www.2011dmvawards.com to nominate. Each vote will be collected into a database, configured to only allow one vote per email address. The system records the IP address of each user to prevent multiple voting from a single email address.

2. Text to Vote: text the key word "DMV" (space) to 313131 then correspondent number BEST DC MALE RAP #4 codes, then the name of the group or artist you would like to vote for. example: TEXT "DMV" to 313131 #4 john smith

3. DMV industry "power ballot": These individuals are drawn from various media outlets and industry professionals, with an intimate knowledge of the local music landscape

We are confident that this system of voting should be the most compressive to date. The nomination deadline for the 2011 DMV MUSIC AWARDS is February 14, 2011.

2. The winners are chosen by a panel of fifteen judges, consisting of reputable and experienced DMV Industry power players, representing different segments of the industry.

1. CRITERIA FOR SELECTION: The selection committee will analyze each artist in each category and choose a winner based upon performance, products, and accomplishments achieved in the calendar year 2010. Winners will be based on concrete statistics, not industry politics.

2. The panel will review the top seven (7) nominees in each category as determined by the nomination process. 3. All nominees will receive full consideration to ensure that the most deserving nominee is chosen.

4. The winner of each category will be determined by who received the most votes from the final judging panel.

5. Members of the panel are required and expected to make unbiased and fair decisions. The acceptance of gifts is strictly prohibited. Panel members are urged to vote in a manner that preserves the integrity of the DMV MUSIC AWARDS.

While we want to make sure the voting process is fair, we will always want this to be an awards event where the people and fans are able to contribute and participate in the voting process. To ensure transparency, a list of the nominating panel representatives can be found here:

Winners will be presented with a DMV Music Award; however, all nominees will be presented with a letter of nomination and complimentary entry to the event.

We are confident that this system of voting should be the most comprehensive to date. The nomination deadline for the 2011 DMV MUSIC AWARDS is February 14, 2011.

My Brother is SMART.. Don't Hold it Against Him...

My fellow blogger and brother is one of the most intelligent cats in the world.  With that being said, he is INSANE.  Here is a look at his rantings that hit home to many.  From his lips, to the pen, to the page, to your eyes, to your brain, enter the cortex and love him or hate him.  I love him because as he always says.....

"We are all HUMAN AFTER ALL"

Dating Stereotypes 3.5 (The Woman's List)

I AM SAVING NOW FOR HEDONISM III IN JULY 2011!! NO SHIT...
So I'm way up past my bedtime (and this insomnia is kicking my ass), watching fine-ass Ali Larter (Google her) in the movie “Obsession”, and I get the urge to post something. Now this list is by no means scientific and is, for the most part, a bunch of stereotypes and miscellaneous perceptions from various women of various ages, races, and backgrounds.  Actually, if we're really talking, it's just something to get us all over until I can drop another bomb for the masses... a filler-blog but a blog all the same. Now let me get back to the new love of my life. Ali Larter ... I'm coming baby!

IT DOESN'T GET MUCH BETTER THAN ALI! YUM-MAY!

11 Types of Men:

1. MR. THUG LIFE
Advantages
a. Real good at making love (so you all say) b. Fun and exciting c. Makes you laugh d. Has your back, will fight and protect you.
Disadvantages
a. Usually drinks and smokes too much b. Always got drama c. Stays a thug forever d. In and out of jail.

2. MR. NAW, I DON`T HAVE A GIRL
Advantages
a. Will take you out in the beginning b. Will introduce you to all his friends c. Compliments you all the time.

Disadvantages
a. Has a girlfriend who he`s been with since the 2nd grade b. Will not get rid of her c. He tells you about her after you`ve fallen in love with his *bleep*

3. MR. BIG BALLA
Advantages
a. Will give you money with no questions asked b. Has a lot of style to him c. Will show you some of the nice things in life

 Disadvantages
a. Never returns your texts b. Feels he can come to your house at any given time without calling first c. Loves to be around his boys more than you.

4. MR. I`M IN THE INDUSTRY -
Advantages
a. Can get you and your friends on the guest list at all the jumping parties b. Can have a decent stimulating conversation c. Tends to dress nice.

Disadvantages
a. You don`t know if he`s gay, straight or bi b. Seems flighty when you speak of a solid commitment c. You still have to wait in line to get in all the jumping parties, then there`s drama at the door d. All he has is a bunch of pictures with celebrities but he does not know them personally

5. MR. INTELLECTUAL
Advantages
a. Book smart b. Cares about how you feel c. Has a very good job

Disadvantages
a. Boring as hell b. Doesn`t know what the hell he`s doin in bed c. He is not street smart d. Always asking you when can he see you again

6. MR. GHETTO
Advantages
a. The Bomb in bed (some say) b. Makes you laugh c. Got mad style and flava d. Has a temper, but generally a charming sweet guy e. Says he want a real relationship

Disadvantages
a. He got 3 or more baby mommy`s b. Wants to lay up in your crib, use the phone, and eat up all the food c. Is in denial when you tell him about himself d. Comes home at 3:00 am and says he was out with his boys

7. MR. I`M A RIGHTEOUS BLACK MAN
Advantages
a. Will teach you about black history b. Revolutionary c. Inspiring & gives to you spiritually & emotionally d. Wants a wife and family

Disadvantages

a. Will introduce you to his mother b. Has a job and will take you out c. Will give you money for your bills d. Sometimes he goes to church on Sunday.

Disadvantages
a. Secretly wants to be Mr. Thug Life b. Wears fake Movado & Rolex watches when he goes to the club c. Ignores you when the game is on d. You find out after you break up with him that he was cheating on you... with a chick from Brasil.

9. MR. PLAYA
Advantages
a. Will tell you that you`re not the only one b. Sometimes he`s fairly decent in bed c. He tells you that you`ve changed him and he`s ready to settle down d. Has his own apartment and car (invites you to move in with him).

Disadvantages
a. He doesn`t acknowledge you in public, especially if there`s women around b. Generally he is a punk (won`t stand up for anything) c. He expects you to believe all his bull. d. After you catch his lying-ass, he tells you that he told you that he was a playa in the beginning anyway.

10. MR. I HAVE A JOB
Advantages
a. Of course.... he has a job b. Doesn`t have too many bad habits c. Will take care of you when you`re sick d. Tells you that he is in love with you after the first week.

 Disadvantages
a. You stay in the relationship 2 years or more and then find out he`s a shiftless, lazy son-of-a-***** who wants you to do all the wifely duties but won`t give you a ring b. He ends up telling you that he loves you, but is not "in love" with you c. After he leaves you he gets married a month later

11. MR. BEST FRIEND
Advantages
a. He`s your best friend, you tell each other everything, you get along very well b. He gives you advice when you and your man are having problems c. The ultimate gentleman d. Sweet and caring with a good sense of humor.

Disadvantages
a. You end up hooking up with him only to find he ain`t about **** either! b. Now, you gotta find a new best friend because you can`t stand his *bleep*!

I'd like to hear your feedback on this one so I can compile a better, more concise, list.  Also, there's a female version of this list too but I'm too tired to post it. This chick I met from Baltimore, who works nights, is a combination of about six of  the items on the list... for real. I won't put you on blast, Des femmes cubaines, as I know someone would have to talk you down off of the ledge after I finish with you. Moving on, the list is just something to kick around and have fun with and should be treated as such.

On a more serious note. I absolutely hate the Holiday Season for a number of reasons. Most importantly, it seems as if the people who've made it special for me through the years have passed-on. Momma (Aunt Honey), Daddy, Great-Grandma Ethel Foster, Mommy Vera, Adrienne Veney, Alice and Pop Walker. Don't get me wrong, my sister Tre (Mookie) ALWAYS makes a holiday of it and a good one at that. Christmas and Turkey Day the past couple of years have been outstanding thanks to Sis, Momma Mia, Vicki, and that whole Philly/NJ Crew. But I am missing the days of my father pulling me out of bed to help around the place in preparation of guest soon to visit. I miss helping Mommy (Vera) in the kitchen make a stuffing so good that I haven't tasted anything that comes close to this day. How can I forget Turkey Days with my deceased fiancee Adrienne? Good Times. I remember the day after our first Thanksgiving together watching a young Maryland Terps Basketball Team defeat, no upset, the Georgetown Hoya's while eating a brunch of deep-fried fish, onion and garlic potatoes, and mimosas'. I think I called-off from the hospital that whole weekend.  We had several more the those holiday gatherings before she passed-on to a much better place.

What I am getting at is even though they ARE this hard, the holidays SHOULDN'T BE, considering the size of my family. As I reflect back over the history of our holiday gatherings I notice a trend: The generation next in line never follows through with tradition when the matriarch or patriarch passes-on. Why? There can be a thousand reasons but here are a few that stand-out to me but that another blog...

Stay Groovy and God Bless,

The Hedonist

Lunchin Chicks on Social Services!!!

Nothing has changed for those in need of social services in this declining economy. Yes we have POTTY MOUFE and yes we are LIVID. Had to pull this one from the vault and share again. Health Care, financial assistance, food, utilities, they give pennies if anything. If you have six kids with twins on the way, maybe they will give you $800 a month. Something is seriously wrong and they wonder why people are jumping off of bridges, taking hostages, and taking out their families. SUICIDE!!!!!

Color of Change Has a Message For You!!

We started ColorOfChange after Hurricane Katrina because we believed that Black America couldn't rely on existing organizations, leaders, or a political party to deliver the change needed to protect and uplift our communities.

Nevertheless, when it comes time to vote, Black Americans consistently vote for Democrats, and those of us who showed up in Tuesday's election did so again in overwhelming numbers. But many of us did not show up — Black turnout dropped from 13% in 2008 to 10% this year. While some of this can be ascribed to the traditional drop-off in midterm elections, we think there is a much larger lesson to be learned, and we hope the Democrats and President Obama are listening.

Put simply: over the past two years neither the President nor the Democratic Party have delivered the level of change we were promised and need. The conditions that caused us to start ColorOfChange — racial inequality and a lack of collective Black political power — are largely the same conditions that exist.

Black Americans still overwhelmingly support the President and want him to succeed. And we're angered by the often subtle, yet clear race-based attacks on the President. But we can't let that get in the way of evaluating the President based on his performance.

What we know is that the policies of President Obama's administration are falling short of delivering on the hope and change that brought us out to vote two years ago. Black unemployment is at 16%, twice the national average. For young Black men, it's above 40%. Black home ownership has been devastated by the foreclosure crisis. Yet, the administration has insisted on a bi-partisan approach to governing that has been soft on the banks and incredibly timid when it comes to creating jobs. The administration has insisted on bringing along Republicans — politicians from a party that condones the hurling of racist and disrespectful slurs at the President, refuses to hold its own accountable, and has made very clear that it has had no intention of truly working with the President and his party. In our view, you can't negotiate in good faith with people like that — people who repeatedly demonstrate that their goal is to attack everything you do and deny you anything you can claim as an accomplishment.

But this is not only or even mostly about the President and his administration. It's largely about the fact that corporate interests have for decades dominated a large part of the Democratic party. For this reason, many Democrats have cowered from truly standing up and fighting for what they say they believe in, for fear of losing campaign contributions of becoming a target of powerful, wealthy corporations and industries. Those who have stood strong often see no support from the national party in their efforts to push for change, and they're often left to fend for themselves come election time.

As a candidate, Barack Obama talked about "changing business as usual" in Washington. The reality is that not much has changed. Rather than truly challenging the entrenched corporate interests that have dominated our politics for so long, President Obama has often tried to negotiate and work with them. During the campaign, Obama often said that change "comes from the bottom up" — but once in office, he hasn't, in any major way, invited ordinary people to pressure the political system, or engaged them in the process of creating change. The movement built around getting Obama elected was largely ignored after he took office. The President's greatest asset — his millions of supporters — were basically abandoned and implicitly told "we got this," when that simply wasn't the case.

Moving forward, Republicans are likely to pose even more of an obstacle to the changes Democrats promised, and many in the media are arguing that the only way forward for Democrats is to move to the right, chart an even tamer course, and compromise further with Republicans and the large corporate interests they represent. We believe the truth is exactly the opposite. Black Americans and everyone else who turned out in 2008 looking for change need to see Democrats fighting harder to deliver that change and taking true leadership to engage all of us in helping create that change. It's what Democrats need to do if they want our votes in the future, and it's the right thing to do if they really want to move this country forward.

In the meantime, regardless of what Democrats do, we need to continue to mobilize within own communities to demand the changes we need from Congress and the White House — supporting them when they try to do the right thing, and holding them accountable when they don't. It won't be easy, and we won't always win — but we know from experience that when we act together, we can create real change that affects all of our lives. And we'll continue reaching out to you with ways to do that together.

That's our perspective. And we wanted to share it with you. But we also wanted to hear from you — how you perceive where we are, what happened Tuesday, and your thoughts on how to best move forward (whether you have time to write a sentence or an essay):

A Message from Our President

Friend --

Tomorrow, you can help determine not just the outcome of this election, but our country's future.

You made the difference in 2008. Now, once again, you can defy the conventional wisdom that says you can't overcome the cynicism of our politics; you can't overcome the special interests and the big money; you can't tackle our biggest challenges.

This movement has never backed down from a tough fight -- and we're not about to start.

Over the next two years, we've got to keep moving America forward -- but I need allies in office to make it happen.

I need you to make sure you get at least three of your friends to vote with you -- it is simply the most important thing you can do to make sure we can keep bringing about change.

When we arrived in Washington, we knew the road ahead would be difficult.

Our country was facing the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression -- with 8 million jobs gone -- because of nearly a decade of policies that put corporations and special interests before ordinary Americans.

Two short years later -- together -- we have begun to rebuild our economy on the values of hard work and responsibility.

Private employers and small businesses have created jobs nine months in a row. And 3 million Americans would not be working today if not for the investments that you, and our Democratic allies in Congress, helped put in place.

Because of you, there are families all across the country who will never have to choose between losing their home and treating an illness. Because of you, millions of parents can look at their kids and know the opportunity of a college education is within reach. Because of you, a business owner got a small business loan and is keeping her doors open. And because of you, thousands of our brave men and women are home from fighting in Iraq.

I know that even with these changes -- and the progress you've fought for -- too many families are still struggling. We have so much more to do.

And that's exactly why America cannot afford to go back.

We must continue to move forward, and the decisions voters make in your area will determine which direction this country takes for generations.

We want to keep taxes low for the middle class, so you can pay your bills.

We want to give tax breaks to American companies who create jobs and spur innovation right here in America, not make it easier for them to ship jobs overseas.

We will fight efforts to privatize Social Security, and stop the other side from handing over the retirement savings of a generation to Wall Street.

We refuse to go back to the days when big oil and insurance companies wrote their own rules and ran up record profits, while you paid for it at the pump or faced bankruptcy as health bills piled up.

The other side has different ideas.

Washington Republicans have tried to block our progress at every turn. And worse, they're campaigning on taking us back to the exact same agenda that brought us to the brink of disaster: Cut taxes for the wealthy at the expense of the middle class while ballooning the deficit. Give free rein to Wall Street speculators. Lower the minimum wage for millions of hard-working families. Privatize Social Security. And allow insurance companies to deny children health coverage based on pre-existing conditions.

The problem is we know what this looks like -- and we know it doesn't work.

We cannot relive that past.

Don't let them tell you that change isn't possible. Because here's what I know: Nothing in America has ever been easy.

The only reason we're here is because, in past generations, Americans came together, even in the face of impossible odds. That's how we got through war. That's how we got through depression. That's why we have civil rights, and women's rights, and workers' rights.

We've asked you to do so much since we started this journey together, and you've always come through.

And now, I'm asking you to come together once more to cast your vote for Democrats tomorrow.

With your vote -- and the votes of at least three of your friends -- we'll continue to grow this economy and restore the middle class to its rightful place, and the American Dream will be alive and well once again.
